1.) Incorporate Dominant 7th & 9th Chords to give the progression a jazzy feel
(use your ear, study the chords of your favorite jazz songs, etc....)
2.) Experiment pitching your melodies slightly up or down between semitones
(ex: +40 cents). This will help create that signature pluggnb slightly detuned sound
3.) Try Using FREE VSTS such as Zebralette & Surge that have hundreds of great sounds !!
4.) Have numerous different sounds playing the same lead with slight variations for texture/fullness. on the hook
5.) Spread out the voicing's of your chords, (especially the 3rd & 7th scale degree). Again, experimentation is key here try not to be basic & only use standard voicings.
6.) Implement diminished/augmented chords to create a sense of tension, drama, & suspense.
7.) Once you've got some chords laid down, Try layering strings/ another synth using the top note from each chord
